One of my premature New Years’ Resolutions (and, yes, it’s only Thanksgiving) is to get back into regular blogging. I’d like to focus on making it a consistent practice, without feeling like I have to post anything too groundbreaking on any given day; just putting up my thoughts about something; a product I use, a feeling I have, a habit I’ve started. I think sometimes that the perfect is the enemy of the good; I worry about making a “meaningful” blog post and then I suddenly realize 6 months went by and I haven’t posted!
With that in mind, today’s topic is going to be Routinery, an app that I use to manage my morning routines. I’ve tried a lot of apps, and for some reason this is the one that stuck. I’m not sure what it is about this particular app, and in general, I don’t think it matters what app folks use; the most important thing is to try a bunch of them and stick with the one that feels the best for you without overanalyzing it too much.
For me, a morning routine is a good way to ground and also a way to build self-confidence and self-esteem. I’ve been keeping it to around 30 minutes, so that I don’t get overwhelmed or feel like I don’t have time to fit it in. My routine includes things like making my bed, doing a few squats, checking my Wordle, checking my mailbox, etc., etc. Nothing too groundbreaking; just little things that I know I should do every day and make my day better in some small way. A few are health related like brushing my teeth or drinking some water. Some are just mood changers like making my bed. None of them take more than about 2 minutes. I think the content of them matters less than that they be a) things you can and should do every day and b) nothing too terribly challenging; so you can get in a easy flow.
