Today would have been an excellent day for resting, except that for various reasons I just did not sleep a wink last night. However, I decided to make the best of it, and we started the morning with a group trip up to the Narrows, which is a (sadly very touristy) slot canyon with a river that you can hike directly through. It was really fun and the views were incredible, and the water wasn’t too cold at all. Apparently sometimes it’s chest deep but this time it didn’t even go much above the knee - still, it was very fun. It actually reminded me of hiking in this stream in Oakland near where I live - just way, way bigger.
There’s a tavern here in the town of Sprindale, right outside the entrance (literally) with a Tavern and I think I ate all my meals there. :) Also an outfitters with showers and rentals. The sunrise and sunsets were spectacular. I didn’t get to see too much mostly because I was exhausted, but I did hike up to the Human Museum (it was OK, a bit dull maybe) and on to Canyon Junction (nothing special). If I ever returned here I would love to do some of the other hikes. It’s really not very far at all (by car) from Vegas so I could see myself coming back. Canyons and desert aren’t really my cup of tea but they certainly can be beautiful. It got super hot in the middle of the day but otherwise it’s been very pleasant.
Tomorrow we have to do a bit of a run-around to even get to the ride because there was a landslide that cut the road. But I’m still very much looking forward to getting back on the bike! It’ll be a short day into Kanab.
Onward and upward! Zion Canyon done and dusted!
